Prof. Martin Bohus, President of the European DBT Society,  vil komme til DK for at gennemføre et DAT kursus for psykologer/læger og andre faggrupper på 3 dage med fokus på nye færdigheder i DAT.

Prof. Martin Bohus has worked with DBT since 1994 with inpatient and outpatient borderline and comorbid PTSD. Martin Bohus received his specialty in Psychiatry and in Psychosomatic Medicine. Since 2003 he has held the Chair of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Heidelberg University and is Scientific Director at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. He holds a visiting professorship at the University of Antwerp and Harvard Medical School. He has received several awards for psychotherapy research. He is past president of the European Society for the Studies of Personality Disorders (ESSPD) and is president of the German Association for DBT. He was president and initiator of the 1st International Congress on Borderline Personality Disorder in Berlin in 2010. He has currently published more than 300 articles and book chapters, mainly on mechanisms of psychotherapy, borderline personality disorders, and PTSD. He has worked with Marsha Linehan for 30 years. He is publishing a RCT on DBT (Linehans DBT model vs. Bohus DBT model) and the results will come in 2026.

3-Day Inspiring DBT Training with Prof. Martin Bohus – Focus on New DBT Skills

Prof. Martin Bohus, President of the European DBT Society, will visit Denmark to conduct a 3-day DBT training course for psychologists, physicians, and other professionals, focusing on new developments in DBT skills.

Prof. Martin Bohus has worked with DBT since 1994, treating both inpatient and outpatient clients with borderline personality disorder and comorbid PTSD. He is a specialist in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. Since 2003, he has held the Chair of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Heidelberg University and serves as Scientific Director at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Antwerp and Harvard Medical School. Prof. Bohus has received several awards for his psychotherapy research. He is the former president of the European Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ESSPD) and current president of the German Association for DBT. He was the president and founder of the 1st International Congress on Borderline Personality Disorder in Berlin in 2010. He has published more than 300 articles and book chapters, primarily on psychotherapy mechanisms, borderline personality disorder, and PTSD. He has collaborated with Marsha Linehan for 30 years and is currently publishing an RCT comparing Linehan’s DBT model with the Bohus DBT model. Results are expected in 2026.

During this 3-day workshop, Prof. Bohus will present new DBT skills applicable in both outpatient treatment and inpatient settings. His work is inspired by ACT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and Emotional Processing Therapy. He has developed new approaches to mindfulness and will demonstrate how to use Wise Mind by linking it to values, positive memories, and self-compassion. He also introduces innovative ways to apply the core mindfulness skills: observe, describe, participate, and nonjudgmental interpretation.

New models of emotion regulation will also be introduced, emphasizing the integration of multiple emotional experiences (e.g., abandonment, rejection, humiliation, and injustice) rather than splitting emotions into separate parts.

Within the domain of interpersonal effectiveness, new skills will be presented, including small talk, relational mapping, and training clients to better understand relational contexts.

Regarding distress tolerance skills, there is a stronger focus on anti-dissociative mechanisms and how both men and women can learn to reduce dissociation rather than becoming “cold,” “indifferent,” or emotionally detached.

Participants will be offered the opportunity to purchase a book in Danish containing all the new skills for use with clients.
